Apart from psychological reasons, biting can also be an inherent quality of some dogs. A dog might be naturally temperamental and get very angry quite often. In that case, you have no other option than to send the dog to an obedience school.

If your dog shows biting tendencies then you have take it very seriously and get help as soon as possible from a professional dog trainer, as an average pet owner is not equipped to address this serious problem.

If one of your neighbors owns a pooch with dog biting problems, the best thing you can do is to prepare yourself. Buy some strong pepper spray formulated to take care of dogs. The heartworm ranges from 6 to 14 inches and reside inside your dogs heart, feeding and growing larger every day.

Disease from heart worm is very often fatal if some sort of prevention is not in place that ensures your dog doesn’t provide the right environment that causes the microfilirae, or heartworm babies, to thrive. When microfilirae find themselves inside an unprotected animal, these miniture heart worms cause heart worm disease within such optimal conditions and spread quickly and efficiently.

The question you might be asking now is exactly what is heart worm disease and how can you prevent your precious pooch from getting it? The first step in protecting Fido is to make sure you are providing a good preventative medicine that eradicates the environment in which these parasites thrive in. Providing your pooch with heart worm medication will allow their body to automatically reject the heartworm larvae, causing them to die off instead of being able to survive. Heartworm disease is ultimately fatal if you are not using some type of preventative medicine. The market is saturated with these types of medications, but there is one specifically that is well regarded and works great.

These days there are a ton of different heart worm medicines for dogs. You can find treat-like chewable heart worm pills, gels that you place on the dogs tongue and even things that are required to be place near the dogs not so pleasant areas. Each one of these medicines work as directed so just be sure to pick the one that best suits your lifestyle and makes it easy to treat your dog and protect them from heart worms.

There are also heart worm pills for dogs that you can give your fido once a month to become a regular heartworm fighting machine. As long as his body has this medicine in his blood stream, it is going to instantly put an end to heart worms, and you aren’t going to have to worry about him getting any nasties from being outside.

Heartworms can come from anywhere, other dogs, other animals like squirrels, cats, ferrets, and even from a small mosquito bite. This is why having a good preventative heartworm pill for dogs is the best bet to keeping your dog safe.

The one medication that I talked about earlier is Interceptor heart worm medication for dogs. This stuff is the jazz, almost the best thing since sliced bread. It comes in numerous forms, from being the chewable treat, to the pill, even to include a gel that you put on the dogs neck, that will repel mosquitos from him. If you live near swampy areas, you definitely want the gel, because mosquitoes are the biggest carrier of the heart worm babies I wrote about earlier.

It is not necessary for your dog to die from heartworm disease. Today the heartworm preventatives are excellent at their job and you should utilize them to the fullest. Preventing this disease is the easiest and best way to show your dog that you care for their well being.

While making your own cat food may not save you much money, it does give you the opportunity to replicate a natural cat diet. Tips On How To Build Dog Kennels

Posted under Pets And Animals

How to build dog kennels is not difficult if the dog owner follows a few easy instructions. When building a dog kennel, the owner can create a plan for a dog kennel that will meet the needs of the owner and the dog.

Dog owners may be tempted to make poor housing or unsafe temporary shelters for their dogs. Many times, this occurs out of the dog owners lack of education or mistakenly thinking the process of building a proper dog kennel is a complicated one.

Before building a homemade dog kennel, the dog owner should check for any local laws or regulations that set standards for outdoor dog kennels. In some municipalities, outdoor dog kennels may be banned completely.

The first step in how to build a dog kennel is to consider the necessary dimensions and desired materials. The size of the dog, the size of the dog house, and any local ordinances restricting the placement of the kennel in relation to the property lines should be considered.

As for materials, there are many options. Some dog owners use regular chain link fencing for the walls of the dog kennel. The height of the walls should ensure that the dog will be secure.

The posts for the fencing material should be well secured. This can be done by sinking the posts into concrete.

The flooring material should be easy to keep clean and easy to sanitize. Steel, wood, and concrete are often used, but some dog owners prefer the ground if the dog is not likely to dig under the walls of the kennel.

The floor of the kennel can be designed to be a slight slope. Therefore, the dog owner can use a hose to spray the floor of the kennel to clean it.

Ideally, kennels provide dogs with areas of shade and areas of direct sunlight. If no trees are near the desired location of the kennel, the dog owner can create a shaded area by including a partial roof in the kennel design.

The gate or door to the kennel should be secured by a metal latch. Using rope to tie the door shut can allow the dog to push it open, especially over time as the rope wears and becomes more elastic.

How To Deal With Dog Behavior Problems

Posted under Pets And Animals

Most often than not, dog owners have to take care of some issues regarding dog behavior problems. You might find that your dog is stubborn and needs more attention to be toilet trained, or your adorable little puppy shreds your favorite pair of shoes or your kids most loved toy, or for that matter anything that takes his fancy. Most often it is possible for you to deal with these problems with a little effort and patience. But sometimes, some dog behavior problems become so severe that you have to get the assistance of a professional dog trainer. Once you realize that you need a professional, it is better to consult him as soon as possible.

When I adopted my pooch,I certainly expected a few dog behavior problems. I knew how adopted puppies could be. Most of them had been abandoned at least once, and some of them multiple times. Some of the dogs have been abused, and all of them have trust issues. Like people, this could cause them to act out.

In the case of the dog I bought, the canine behavior issues didn’t start right away. She seemed pretty well-trained for the most part. Then all of a sudden, the dog behavior problems started. I don’t know what set it off, but suddenly she was afraid to see me leave the apartment. I think she was worried that I would not come back.

The minute I tried to leave the apartment she would start to act out. She would go literally crazy, raising hell, peeing on the floor and running through anything on her path. Most probably she thought that I was not going to come back and this problem became a very serious issue. After unsuccessfully trying some tips that I found on dog training, I finally had to visit a professional dog trainer.

The professional advised me that persistence was the key to this problem. Though I was already in the right track by leaving him alone for a few minutes, I just didnt realize that training my dog would take so much of my time and patience.

The professional said that I should always tell my dog that I will come back before leaving; using the same phrase every time I left my apartment. Initially I would come back in just 20 or 30 seconds and then I slowly increased the time to about an hour, each time repeating the same phrase about coming back to my puppy. Though it seemed a herculean task at first, I finally accomplished what I set out to do. Now, my adorable little pooch is in her best behavior.

Preparing Your Koi Pond For Winter

Posted under Pets And Animals

When Winter is approaching, and this will be the first Winter that you go through with your Koi pond. Consider Winter as a down period for your pond, as other than other time, there is minimum activity during winter. However, there are some safeguards that you need to take before Winter really arrives, to help your koi fish survive during this period.

Clean Up- Take about a weekend to completely go over your pond. Clean up and unwanted bulk material in and around your pond. Inside your pond, clean up all leaves, slit, and other material from the bottom. Also, remove any plants or flowers that will not make it through the winter. Around the pond, clean up anything that can blow into your pond, as you are not likely to notice this debris until the end of winter. Taking the time to make sure that as much debris is removed as possible will prevent potentially harmful bacteria and parasites in the future.

Stop Feeding- You must also remember to stop feeding your Koi during the winter. When fall begins and the temperatures hover around 55 to 60 degrees, only feed once a day. Once the temperatures swing below 50 degree for the first time, stop feeding completely. Even if the temperature goes above 50 degrees, still reframe from feeding your fish. The majority of Koi, when healthy and the temperature is above 50 degrees, take at the least four days to totally digest food. If you mistakenly feed your fish to late the food will not digest and will end up killing your fish. Do not mistake you Koi as hungry when they open to their mouths to you. Because this is just a learned reflex, not hunger. When really feel that you need to feed them, always think that there also natural food in the pond itself without you even need to feed your Koi. They will eat this natural food when they are hungry. So you do not need to worry about this.

Check Up- Do you seasonal check up on all your equipment. This includes everything from your filtration system to your store of preventable medications. This is because most Koi ponds are dormant during this winter season,it is hard for you to find your supply during this time of the year.

Prepare For Cold Weather- Prepare for cold weather by investing in the items you will need during the summer. Koi have been known to withstand constant temperatures as low 39 degrees, and temperatures slightly lower then 39 degrees, for short periods of time. When buying a heater, remember to research what size you will need to adequately heat your pond during the winter, otherwise ice will still form, causing potentially dangerous amounts of gas in the water, due to it being trapped under the ice. In extreme events, it may be a good idea to have an emergency tank inside available.

Also, turn off your water sources as at this period of time, your heater will work hard to heat your pond Be sure to also turn off water features like waterfall and streams. These features will circulate water, and constantly bring new, and cold water into your pond. So, your heater only need to heat the water in the pond without having to do extra work to heat up the circulation of cold water.his will be the first Winter that you are keeping your Koi pond. Think of Winter as a down time for your pond, as other than other season, there is minimum activity during winter. Yet, there are some precautions that you need to do before Winter arrives, to determine that your koi pond and koi fish survive.Spend some time, like somewhere around two days to clean up your pond. Try to clean to undesirable macros from your Koi pond. Inside your pond, clean up all leaves, slit, and other material from the bottom. Make sure to also get rids of plants that won’t be able to survive the winter time. Around the pond, clean up anything that can blow into your pond, as you are not likely to notice this debris until the end of winter. Taking the time to make sure that as much debris is removed as possible will prevent potentially harmful bacteria and parasites in the future.
